What happens if I live in both Canada and the U.S. and declare bankruptcy?
Usually, the best solution is to declare bankruptcy in the country in which you have the most debt. By law, you will be required to declare all assets that you possess, including those in another country. Your bankruptcy will probably take longer to process, as the situation is more complex. In America, you will need to find a bankruptcy attorney (a specialized lawyer who works directly for you). In Canada, you will need to find a bankruptcy trustee (a licensed officer of the court who works for neither the debtor nor the creditor, but for the court).
