If you find that you are having difficulty managing your money once bankruptcy has discharged your debts, talk to your bankruptcy trustee. You may want to engage his or her services for ongoing financial counselling (even a monthly appointment can be a strong incentive to keep up healthy habits). Or you may find that a support group such as Debtors Anonymous will be helpful.
There is no shame in asking for help. You probably spent 12 years learning science in school, but there isn’t a similar program that teaches people how to manage their money. Additionally, you are one person facing billions in advertising dollars, all spent with the purpose of getting you to buy products and services far beyond what you actually need. Get the support you need so that you never need to experience the burden of financial stress that led to filing for bankruptcy.
