Debts That Are Not Erased during Bankruptcy or Consumer Proposals
Secured debts, such as property or a vehicle, will not be discharged during bankruptcy. Most of your unsecured debts will be erased during bankruptcy or become less if a consumer proposal is accepted. There are some exceptions:
Fines imposed by a court
Debts imposed by Civil Court for damages you have created by wrongful death, intentional bodily harm, and sexual assault
Student loans, if it is less than seven years since you stopped being a full or part-time student
Alimony or child maintenance payments are almost always payable during and after bankruptcy
