Fraud is misrepresenting information for financial gain. If you padded your income or omitted debts that you owed when applying for a credit card or loan and it is discovered by your creditor, it may be deemed fraud and you will not be able to discharge this debt(s) after bankruptcy.
In a similar vein, if you did not disclose a debt during the financial assessment with your trustee, resulting in a creditor not being notified of a bankruptcy or consumer proposal, then the creditor can be awarded the portion of money they would have received during the discharge process.
Fines levied as penalties for criminal or traffic convictions are exempt from discharge. Even after bankruptcy, you are expected to pay the fines or suffer the legal consequences, such as incarceration. The same holds true for fines issued by a civil court judgment in the case of bodily harm, sexual assault, or wrongful death.
