Are there debts that I can't get rid of during bankruptcy?
Yes. Debts that are secured against assets (mortgages and leases) are not discharged. You will be required to pay alimony and child support, including any outstanding amounts. Student loans are not automatically discharged unless you have been out of school for seven years. Fines and judgements issued by a criminal, traffic, or civil court still must be paid. In some cases, the Canadian Revenue Agency will contest the discharging of tax debt.
