Does the bankruptcy trustee work for me?

In Canada, the bankruptcy trustee ultimately works as an official of the bankruptcy court. Even though you are the one who selects your trustee, understand that he or she has a duty to make sure that you understand your responsibilities and carry them out and that your creditors stop contacting you in any way. Your trustee will look at your financial picture and suggest solutions to your debt problems, based on both the legal criteria and their experience with debt issues. Even though, technically, the trustee doesn’t work for you, he or she will do their very best to come up with a solution that fits both your emotional needs and the realities of your financial situation.
